Investment Management Coursework 2010/2011
Portfolio Construction and Performance
You are to form teams (3 or 5 people) and form an Investment Fund Management Team. .
• As a team you have £ 100,000,000 to invest across a minimum of 10 equities holdings and a maximum of 20. It would be useful/interesting to use the international make-up within this module to team up with individuals who have knowledge of overseas companies… Who is France’s answer to Marks & Spencer ?? India’s answer to Vodaphone??
This is neither an instruction nor a requirement just a suggestion.
• Each individual is to produce a list of recommended investments for the team who will decide which shares are chosen for initial investment. Each individual will submit a written report (C 750 words) detailing their choices and brief rationale. These to be submitted via Blackboard by 17.00 5th November 2010.
o This equates to 20% of coursework mark
• The Group will make a presentation (during seminars in the week commencing 8th November) detailing their portfolio choices.
o This equates to 10% of coursework mark
• The Group will monitor their portfolio and advise me by Friday 17.00 each week (via email) as to any changes in their portfolio. Closing date for monitoring 17th December 2010
o Your final group report will detail rationale for all changes
o Charges for transaction 0.05% of transaction value on sale and purchase.
• A Group written report is due in 11th February 2011 detailing the performance of the fund

• 6- 10% better / worse + / - 2% of grade
• 11-15% better / worse + / - 3% of grade
• 16-20% better / worse + / - 4% of grade
• > 21% better / worse + / - 5% of grade
No group will be lowered under 40%
