1.Task Description
1.1 Background of the Translation Project
With the improvement of the quality and quantity of imports and exports of China's automobile and increasing demand for new energy vehicles in the overseas market, automobile engineering has gained recognition and importance gradually. At the same time, many reports and books related to automobile engineering have emerged. The demand for these books and reports are also greatly increased.
The translator of this report took an internship in the import and export department from July 2021 to January 2022. The production of automobiles began in 1969. In 1981, it became one of the prominent members of the whole company groups. In 1997, it made great progress in terms of development. After that, it became a mature and modern company gradually. During its more than 30 years’ history of automobile production, the company has received tremendous support and assistance from the central, local and group companies. Since the Eighth Five-Year Plan, the company has successively invested more than 1 billion yuan in the technological transformation to improve the efficiency of auto mobile production. It has built a computer-aided design and manufacturing system. A number of product designs have won national patents. The quantity of monthly sales of automobiles in the import and export department of Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd. exceeded 10 million yuan, which showed the demand for translation in the automobile market.
1.2 Purpose and Significance of the Report
This report takes Automobile Engineering. Basic Fundamental Is to Advanced Concepts of Automobile Engineering as the source text. With two translation strategies and translation methods, this technical text is translated and analyzed from three dimensions of eco-translatology. From the perspective of the theoretical significance of ecological translation, it is found that this theory is not so much used in technical texts after searching and collecting the reports about the application of the theory in this field. In the previous translation practice, the fact of cultural differences in technical texts have been neglected. However, with the development of technical text, culture has gradually risen to the same role as language and communication (Hu, 2013: 48). It is applicable to apply eco-translatology theory to the translation of the technical text. The translation of technical texts is a gradual evolution based on selection and adaptation. This theory is applicable to technical translation. What’s more, the application of this theory would give a new depiction of the translation essence, process and method of technical essays. The text of automotive engineering is a kind of technical text. It is closely connected with basic English and has specific language characteristics and styles. It not only conforms to the accuracy of the English text of automobile engineering at the linguistic level, but also conforms to the effectiveness of the translation required by automobile sellers and the acceptability of the target audience. It is beneficial to expand the theoretical research depth of the technical texts and has a great significance for the translation of the texts of the same type. It is found that there is no Chinese version of Automobile Engineering, so it is appropriate to adopt this book as the source text. Besides, some parallel texts of the translation have been published which can be learned by researchers in related field.
2. Translation Process
2.1 Before Translation
It is said that a good beginning is half-done, a great translator is responsible for her translation. The qualification and requirements includes working experiences and skills in translation, preferably in areas related to the source text. Pre-translation includes many steps, mainlu including the making of time plan, the browsing of the source text, the collecting of relevant terms. Besides, it also includes consulting the supervisor about the translation techniques, asking help from colleagues and classmates and reading a lot of parallel texts. Preparation before translation is just like the foundation of a building, which determines the quality of the whole thing.
The translator should be familiar with the specialized knowledge of automobile engineering. After comparing various automobile textbooks, manuals and documents obtained during internship, such as Automobile Basic Structure and Principles published by Beijing Institute of Technology Press ( Tang, 2019). The translator understand the structure distribution of the automobile transmission system and the operation of each component. Translators consulted a large number of parallel texts on China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), Duxiu and other places, as well as books of Chinese version named Automotive Engineering Technology English published by Beijing Chemical Industry Press (Zhang, 2016: 26). Besides, the translator consultd related books recommended by the teachers, making relevant notes and summaries, and gradually recognized the language characteristics of scientific and technological texts. In addition, the translator also consults the automobile website in Duxiu to update the internal operation of the transmission system.
2.2 While Translation
The transaltion process is also a necessary part in the whole transaltion. It includes the control of time, the plan of transaltion task of every week. Then it also should take the transaltion difficulties into consideration.
2.2.1 Time Plan
The translation project was started in November 2021 and finished in January 2022. The source text of this report is made up of about 15,000 words. The first phase of this project is made by the number of words. The translator plans to reproduce it and control the span based on the number of the word in all. The first draft is planned to be finished within 10 days. In the second stage, the first draft shall be proofread. The translator looks for the subtractions and grammatical mistakes in the text, and uses relevant software to correct the errors. To avoid errors in translation and format, the translator communicates with classmates to revise the text. The translator needs to spend another 15 days on the second step. After two rounds of proofreading, the translation should be not only accurate in meaning, but also fluent in writing. Finally, the text should be revised according to project requirements, relevant term database and corpus. The translator may spend 35 days in the whole process of translation.

4.1 Application of Linguistic Dimension
From the language level, the translator will transform the form and contents of the source text. During the transformation between the two languages, we should take the differences of them into consideration. The use and expression of the source text and target text are two different language system. They present similarities and differences in technical texts.
The translator summarizes all these points mentioned above. In terms of linguistic dimension, it is illustrated by the translator from two levels. One is the lexical level, and the other is syntactic level. In addition, in order to keep the balance of the elements and components between source language and target language, the translation of the automobile engineering is carried out by selective and adaptive conversion. For example, the repetition of terminologies and the reorganization of sentence pattern. Next, the translator will specify them and give methods according to the guidance of ecological translation in linguistic dimension.
5. Conclusion
5.1 Summary
In the translation practice, the translator selected a translation material in the field of automobile engineering as the source text. Under the guidance of eco-translatory theory, the translator has solved many complex problems in the process of translation in terms of echnical text. As for the application of linguistic dimension, it is analyzed from two levels, including lexical level and syntactic level. As for the application of cultural dimension, two translation strategies are adopted, including literal translation and free translation. As for communicative dimension, it is used by subtraction and addition. It is found that eco-translatory theory has a significance on the translation of automobile engineering. After finishing this translation task, the translator has got an insight into the translation. In terms of translation qualities, the preparation before translation is essential for the whole translation. Besides, a good command of bilingual knowledge is important. The translator should think about the differences between the source language and the target language carefully, making correct and suitable answers to the translation. We learned that culture differences between Chinese and English affect translation work. The translator should learn to consult professional books and resources to expand the knowledge of relevant background information. Besides, the translator could accumulate and sum up the useful information to improve the translation efficiency.
